Chachaura
Notes since 2018 · reopened 2026

Old songs with hidden stories. Hard ideas, made simple.

Two notebooks under one roof. One tracks down where Hindi film tunes really came from. The other explains the subjects that run a business so clearly that a ten-year-old could follow along.

Bollywood Detective

Every great tune has a past.

Hindi film music has always borrowed, from folk songs, ghazals, qawwalis and records from around the world. Some borrowings are open tributes, some are quiet. The case files follow the trail, with dates.

Case 001

Mehbooba Mehbooba

The dance number from Sholay that everyone in India can hum. But the hook was already a hit in Europe a year earlier.

Step 1

Hear it

Something in a song sounds familiar: a hook, a rhythm, a turn in the melody.

Step 2

Trace it

Search the folk traditions, the radio hits and the films of the years before.

Step 3

Date it

A match only counts if the source came first. No date, no case.

More case files, and a Bollywood Detective video channel, are on the way.

Learn it simply

Big subjects, explained like you're ten.

About

Who keeps these notebooks?

Chachaura is written by someone who has spent a long career in engineering and business operations, and grew up with Hindi film songs playing in the background.

Two habits run through everything here. The first is curiosity: hearing a tune and needing to know where it came from. The second is a belief that anything, however technical, can be explained to a ten-year-old if you start from something they already know.

No names and no face. Just the notes.
